What makes a disc worth more?

  • Out-of-print (OOP): Discontinued titles where new copies aren't being printed
  • Boutique labels: Criterion, Arrow, Shout/Scream Factory, Kino Lorber, Vinegar Syndrome
  • Limited editions: Numbered, slipcovers, art books, slipcases, mediabooks
  • Steelbooks: Especially 4K UHD and store-exclusive variants
  • Complete TV series: Easier to sell as one box than season-by-season
  • Anime box sets: Funimation/Aniplex/Sentai limited editions, deep-cut OVAs
  • Sealed retail copies: Especially anything pre-2010
  • Original packaging: Slip covers, j-cards (Game Boy), manuals, inserts

What lowers the value?

  • Rental store copies — stickers, generic cases, no artwork (reduced)
  • Disc-only — no case, no artwork (reduced, still bought)
  • Heavy scratches affecting playback — case-by-case
  • Cracked cases / disc cracks — declined
  • Mold or smoke smell — declined
  • Promotional / "Not for resale" — typically declined
